All kinds of everything

What a busy few weeks it has been! On the work front I've been doing a lot of tours of late - it's nice meeting lots of interesting people from different backgrounds. I've had americans, english, bulgarian, and a wee glaswegian for good measure :) I've also worked up in Inverness this weekend. What a beautiful scenic trip it is up there on the train. It takes three hours but it was really nice to get to see bits of Scotland I've never seen before. Inverness is a beautiful wee city, and the folks there are lovely!

My home life is, as ever, hectic and a last minute effort to get everything paid on time and such. My flatmate and I have thrown a couple of dinnerparties for friends and they've been really good. It's nice to feel houseproud after all the hardwork (still more to come!) we've put into redecorating the flat. I made my infamous stew at one of them and it went down very well. Aren't I chuffed!

In terms of my practice, I'm starting to build up my primary research book for this year which at the moment is focusing on loss, as that has been a big part of my life this summer. I done a couple of doodles while working in Inverness and they're really quite strong so they went into the sketchbook. I can feel my itchy fingers coming back and my desire to draw and research is quite overwhelming. I'm really looking forward to going back to art shool on the 22nd Sept (especially now that I've finally got my SAAS funding sorted!) and it'll be a blessing to have my bursary and loans going into the bank again after a VERY financially tight summer.

Roll on the 14th and 15th! I can feel a wee shopping spree coming on!

Paperwork

So last week was mainly consumed by technicalities of moving into the new flat - signing leases, moving more stuff in, getting council tax exemption letters and such. All very boring but unfortunately necessary. And it also means having paid my deposit and first months rent that my financial situation is dire. Currently living off of tinned potatoes from Lidl and sweetcorn. Oh the joys of being a student! hehe

As well as that, my weekend consisted of de-installing the IRONBBRATZ show FTPA in Saltmarket. I can honestly say now that having worked as part of this project, I don't think my stregnths lay in hearding artists - they are quite difficult to get motivated to de-install their work, especially when very hungover. But it's all fair enough really, I know I'd be the same if I were showing. (or slightly worse!)

And at last, I'm getting back into the swing of making work! Yay! I've started a little sketchbook which will contain drawings of 5 week old human embryos. I'll develop them, hopefully using my grid technique to discuss obscurity, loss and life. We shall see what happens. I really need a new inkjet cartridge for my printer as some of my work is going to have photocopied faces and such on it - pictures will be posted when I get the chance.
