lots of work to be done

Still working hard to get everything sorted for the exhibition at the end of this week. Opening on Friday and then the concert on Saturday. I hope it all turns out well. I am fairly comfortable with the plan I have conjured up, but it remains to be seen if is doable and if it turns out well. Always a really exciting and scary part of a project when there is nothing you can do except push through and hope for the best.
I am doing drawings - first time I am focusing so much on drawings. I didn't draw at all for several years before I moved to Glasgow and started GSA where the first thing they made us do was a three day drawing workshop and fieldtrip. Since then I have been drawing and trying desperately to make up for all the "bad" years, but I am still quite uncertain of my drawings and slightly scared of putting so much hope on them alone.
Also working on a sound piece for the space I am going to install it all in. Since March I have been making quite a few recordings with a small dictaphone. The sound isn't good enough to fool anyone, but it lets me play around a little bit and functions a bit like sketches of the sound. Now I have booked out proper professional recording equipment from the EMS (Electronic Media Studio) and made recordings in the old shop where we were supposed to exhibit work. We have moved the show to the Barnes, but I still wanted some of the sounds from the old shop to put into the room. The water moving around in the pipes in that building are wonderful and strange and sligthly uncomfortable. The water is seeping through the whole building and makes sounds when you least expect it. Keeping fingers crossed I manage to edit it well and get an output for the show that will sound vaguely interesting and as a part of the fabric of the building.

ready for term3

I am just back from a fabulous holiday in Norway. After the trip around Scotland I went to stay at my parents cabin. We had a really good time with my brothers going cross country skiing (for the first time in ten years) and generally enjoying the simple life in the cabin, where there is no water.
After that I went north to see my boyfriends family, before going to Oslo to spend the last week with old friends. Oslo was a bit depressing and grey, but it was really good to see my friends and celebrate my birthday.
Now I am back in Glasgow and ready for term3. We got the timetable yesterday and it looks like we are going to have an exhibition on and opening already on the 1.May. In addition I am working on some stuff which is going to be put in a concert space for a particular concert. I hope it will turn out well, but there is soooo much work to be done. Good to know that at least I have finished my CRS and delivered it. One less thing to worry about.
Focus now will be to find out as much as possible about the two spaces and start to make work for them!! As quick as possible - no time for this kind of procrastination.

Exhibition Time

So still enjoying the long easter break right now which is blissful but I've got the niggle of my exhibition coming up in 2 weeks. In second year, the painting dept. have a group exhibition at the start of term three. Because the year group is too big for the exhibition space, there are two separate shows, one half of the year first then the other half. I've not produced work for it yet but I know what my work is going to be so its just a case of starting it.

In other news, broke up with the boyfriend AGAIN. That's the third time since January and I've decided that he's not worth the hassle. He's afraid of commitment but I'm not going to waste my time and my life waiting for a man to become comfortable with being in a relationship. I'm a wee bit sad, but more angry and bouncing back quicker and stronger than ever. Should make way for some more interesting and provocative work.

Easter Holidays

Well right now it's the easter holidays at the art school. I'm quite enjoying them so far, although have spent most of them recovering from being spiked on the night of my metallica gig and missing it. Gutted but ah well. We've had some lovely weather so far so I'm not complaining.

The school is thankfully still open. I've been needing to use the library quite a lot and just decided to take all my art materials home so that I can work there because money is so tight I can't really afford to be travelling into school unneccisarily. I'm beginning to worry about my exhibition which is opening the week after we go back. Think I've got a good idea of work to produce for it though so it could be worse, just need to get my backside in gear and produce it! Also, a bit of cash to buy some paint and brushes would help.

My bursary and loan should go in on the 7th (maybe tomorrow though, i hope!) and I've already got it all spent. I need a desk, art supplies and I'm thinking of putting down a deposit on a new bed because the one I have right now is so badly broken its being held up by books and the slats that are broken are causing me some severe back pain. I'd love one of those memory foam mattresses....so comfy! But beggars can't be chosers hehe. Anyways, I'm away back to my painting (yea, notice my weird working hours, midnight until 4 is becoming normal).

Around northern Scotland.

The last week of April my boyfriend and his younger brother came to visit and we went driving around the northern parts of Scotland, from Glasgow to Inverness, stopping in Stirling. Then onwards around the Black Isle going north to Thurso, stopping at Dunrobin Castle, Whaligo steps and cairns. In Thurso we found a restaurant serving the best, I mean absolutely BEST indian food I have had! The next day we went to see the Duncansby Stacks and then drove east to Smoo Cave before heading south to Ullapool. We spent the night in a wonderful B&B, I think we were almost the first people staying there, as they were in the process of redecorating. At night we went to the local pub to have whiskey when we dumped into a bunch of people having their weekly gathering at the pub to sing folksongs etc. We had the best time! The last we spent on Isle of Skye were we visited the Isle of Skye brewery and Talisker Distillery. From the brewery we bought more than 20different ales and beers to have our own tasting when we got back to the flat. Coming back to Glasgow late in the evening it was really nice to have a box of ales waiting to be tasted. For our trip we rented a car for almost a week. It was't particularly expensive and allows you to go everywhere whenever you want. However I have been thinking of going myself, but using publiv transportation. It is truly amazing where you can find railways.
